Services

As a technology advisor, my role is to help adults learn how to use different devices and technologies in a fashion that can be understood. I specialize in the following Training Topics, such as: How to use Apple computers, watches, phones, and iPads, as well as Windows computers and Android products. Here is an overview:

A Simplified Approach

I understand that many adults feel overwhelmed or intimidated by technology, so I use simplified approaches to explain concepts and teach in a step-by-step fashion. My aim is to create a supportive and patient learning environment where learners can feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace.

1. Apple Devices:

I teach seniors how to use Apple computers, like iMacs and MacBooks, to browse the internet, send emails, create documents, and stay connected with loved ones. I also help adults understand the features of Apple watches, such as tracking health and fitness, and receiving notifications. Additionally, I guide people through using Apple iPhones and iPads, showing how to send text messages, take and edit photos, and download useful apps.

2. Windows Computers (extension lessons):

For seniors using Windows computers, I provide guidance on basic computer operations, such as navigating the desktop, using the internet, sending emails, and managing files. I also touch on how to use popular software like Microsoft Word and Excel, enabling them to create documents and spreadsheets.

3. Android Products:

When it comes to Android products, I assist seniors in understanding how to use Android phones and tablets. This includes sending text messages, browsing the internet, using social media apps, and downloading helpful applications. I also help adults understand the features of Android (Samsung) watches, such as tracking health and fitness, and receiving notifications.

4. Taking, Editing, and Sharing Photos using their mobile devices:

I show seniors how to use the camera on their mobile device to capture pictures. We learn how to find and open the camera app, adjust settings like flash and focus, and take photos by tapping a button. This way, they can capture special cruising moments and memories with ease. Sometimes, photos may need a little touch-up or enhancement. I teach how to use simple editing tools on their devices to make these changes. We can crop photos to remove unwanted parts, adjust brightness and colors to make them look better, and apply filters to add artistic effects. Lastly, I guide guests on how to share their photos using messaging apps, email, or social media platforms. We can send photos as attachments or post them on platforms like Facebook or Instagram so that others can see and enjoy their experiences.

5. Common Scams:

  • Phishing Scams: Fraudsters make Robocalls and send deceptive emails or text messages posing as legitimate organizations to trick seniors into revealing sensitive personal information like passwords or financial details.

  • Tech Support Scams: Scammers impersonate tech support representatives and contact seniors, claiming that their computer has a problem. They then offer to fix it remotely for a fee, gaining access to sensitive information or installing malware.

  • Social Security/Tax Scams: Seniors may receive calls, emails, or mail claiming that they owe money and will be severely charged if they do not pay.

  • Emails or text: Relative stuck somewhere and needs money to recover from issue or resume trip, etc.

  • Sweepstakes/Lottery Scams: Seniors may receive calls, emails, or mail claiming that they have won a lottery or sweepstakes. To collect their winnings, scammers ask for payment or personal information.

  • Social Media Scams: Seniors may encounter scams on social media platforms, such as fake investment opportunities, fraudulent online stores, or requests for money from fake profiles posing as family members or friends.

6. Favorite Apps:

  • WhatsApp or FaceTime: Enables clear audio and video calls, text messages so that you can stay connected with family and friends.

  • AARP Now: Provides news, health tips, and discounts for AARP members.
